The question of whether working class and class consciousness has emerged with a view to prove its existence has been quite influential in the Turkish context. The genesis of class consciousness was hindered by various conditions surrounding the Early Republican era workers. Elsewhere I attempted to show that the political turmoil as well as the harsh policies of the State against the socialist circles was the most significant impediments against the consciousness of the working population in Turkey.  However, Turkey was on a path towards social transformation beginning from the 1960’s which will be scrutinised in effect to comprehend the nature of the massive labour movement that took place on 15/16 June 1970.
